Holidays in Olu Deniz

Olu Deniz Introduction

Olu Deniz is incredibly photogenic and the reality is every bit as good as the hype. The beach is a long, crescent-shaped mix of sand and shingle and is a sunworshipper’s paradise. It’s bordered by an incredible turquoise sea and overlooked by pine-clad hills and majestic, mountain forests. The lagoon area, at the far end of the beach, is part of a national park and conservation area so most holiday accommodation is located behind and above the beach.

Why Choose Olu Deniz?

Olu Deniz has a great selection of bars and eating places, a choice of mini-markets and shops and a few night spots. Some 25 minutes’ drive away is the bustling port and market town of Fethiye with its excellent shopping, museum and terrific seafood restaurants. And just a short taxi or dolmus ride away, in the hills just above Olu Deniz, is Hisaronu with its lively bars and great nightlife. With all this at your fingertips, it’s not difficult to see why Olu Deniz is one of Turkey’s most popular destinations.

Best Time to Travel

Any time is a good time to visit Olu Deniz but we think the best time to visit is in May, June, September and October when the temperatures are perfect – in the high 70s or low 80s. The beach gets a bit crowded in August but it’s so big you’ll always find space. If it’s sea-swimming you like then September is the best month as it’s at its warmest then.

The Resort

With a backdrop of towering, pine-clad mountains and with superb views out across the bay, Olu Deniz enjoys a superb location. The beach offers a range of watersports and, from the beach, boat trips can be enjoyed along the beautiful coastline or to the offshore islands. There’s a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants in the village and there’s also a regular bus and dolmus service to nearby Hisaronu and Fethiye.

Eating & Drinking

Although Olu Deniz is well served with its own good restaurants, the place to be is Fethiye if you enjoy seafood at its very best. There’s a wide selection of restaurants both in the old town and along the sea front promenade. In Olu Deniz itself all the bars, cafes and restaurants are within easy walking distance and all offer good value and competitive prices.

Excursions

Olu Deniz offers a good choice of excursions and sightseeing trips in addition to numerous boat trips along the beautiful coastline and to offshore islands. Amongst the places you can visit are Dalyan (the Lycian rock tombs), Ephesus & Pamukkale, Saklikent and Rhodes (Greece). You can also try your hand at white water rafting, a Jeep Safari and paragliding.

Night Life & Shopping

Although there is some low-key nightlife in Olu Deniz itself, Hisaronu is the place to go for a lively night out. Here, just 15 minutes away in the hills above Olu Deniz, you will find a selection of bars, discos and night spots to appeal to most tastes. In nearby Fethiye there’s a good selection of shops, and leather goods – bags, jackets, belts, wallets – are a particularly good buy.
