Holidays in Kusadasi

Kusadasi Introduction

Kusadası, which is served by flights to both Izmir and Bodrum, is one of Turkey’s most popular destinations and it’s easy to see why. It’s a vibrant resort and offers visitors a huge array of shops, bars, restaurants, night spots and some great beaches. In addition, there’s a fascinating old town with its own bazaar and a picturesque harbour. What was once a small fishing port is now a major resort in its own right and boasts a range of excellent facilities and an imposing sea front and marina.

Why Choose Kusadasi?

There’s something for everyone in Kusadasi and it really does cater for all ages and all tastes. There’s a wide selection of accommodation from family-run pensions and apartments to 5 star hotels. There’s great shopping, a colourful market, superb excursions and boat trips, a huge range of local and international restaurants and some of the best nightlife in the Mediterranean.

Best Time to Travel

Any time between April and October is a good time to go although the resort will be less crowded and less hot if you avoid July and August. The weather is perfect in May and June with long days and the temperature just about ideal. In September and October, the high season summer crowds have gone and the sea is at its warmest.

The Resort

Kusadasi enjoys a great location overlooking the blue Aegean Sea and within easy driving distance of ‘must-see’ ancient sites like Ephesus and the Temple of Apollo. There’s a choice of beaches (with Kadinlar (‘Ladies’ Beach’) being the most popular), a splendid seafront with great views of the offshore islands, and excellent local transport to nearby towns and villages. International cruise liners and little fishing boats are to be found in the port whilst regular ferries operate to the nearby Greek island of Samos.

Eating & Drinking

From local doner kebab stalls to superb international restaurants, from family-run cafes to sophisticated cocktail bars, Kusadasi has a selection of places to eat and drink to satisfy every taste. There’s something for everyone and you’d need a month to go through all the nationalities’ speciality dishes on offer. It really is a gourmet’s paradise.

Excursions

In Kusadasi you’re spoilt for things to do and see and, apart from the numerous boat trips available, you can also visit the Temple of Apollo, Pamukkale, the house of the Virgin Mary in nearby Selcuk, Sirince village (a delightful old Greek settlement), Bafa Lake and, of course, world famous Ephesus.

Night Life & Shopping

There’s a huge choice of bars and night clubs to appeal to all tastes in the resort centre, around the harbourfront and in Kusadasi’s famous bar street. From jazz to pop, from classical to rock, there is something for you. For serious shoppers the bazaar is the magnet with a wide array of shops and stalls selling everything from local spices to the finest leather jackets whilst the local market is a great place to enjoy that famous Turkish pastime, haggling!
