Holidays in Fethiye

Fethiye Introduction

Fethiye is probably the most ‘Turkish’ of all our featured resorts and, apart from being a delightful resort, is also a town and fishing port in its own right. There’s a superb natural harbour which is sheltered by several small islands just a short distance away and, behind the resort, there are towering pine-clad mountains and lots of pretty, local villages.

Why Choose Fethiye?

Fethiye is perfect for those looking for local life and, at the same time, a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants. All along the sea front and in the old town you’ll find a number of great seafood restaurants together with a good choice of shops, a fascinating m museum and, of course, a weekly market. The resort caters for all tastes and all ages although the night life is low key. There’s a great beach across the bay at Calis – reached by boat or dolmus – a range of boat trips and very good sightseeing.

Best Time to Travel

The best time to visit Fethiye is between May and October. Temperatures are perfect in May and June and the sea is at its warmest in September and October. July and August can be very hot but there’s always a cooling onshore breeze.

The Resort

Located at the eastern end of a huge bay with a magnificent 2 mile stretch of sand and shingle beach close to hand at Calis, Fethiye enjoys a superb location. The beach and the bay are protected by several small offshore islands and water taxis operate a regular shuttle service to the beach. In Fethiye, there’s a colourful, bustling weekly market, a fascinating museum and a choice of venues for night-owls.

Eating & Drinking

If you enjoy fish and seafood then Fethiye is the place to be. There’s a wide selection of restaurants both in the old town and along the sea front promenade. There’s also a number of local and international restaurants to choose from and, of course, a bars and cafes everywhere.

Excursions

Fethiye offers a really good selection of excursions and sightseeing trips in addition to numerous boat trips along the beautiful coastline and to offshore islands. Amongst the places you can visit are Dalyan (the Lycian rock tombs), Ephesus & Pamukkale, Saklikent and Rhodes (Greece). You can also try your hand at white water rafting, a Jeep Safari and paragliding.

Night Life & Shopping

Fethiye is surprising lively at night and there are bars and night spots to appeal to most tastes. The sea front promenade is the place to be for an evening cocktail and a lovely sunset. There’s a good selection of shops, and leather goods – bags, jackets, belts, wallets – are a particularly good buy.
