Holidays in Altinkum

Altinkum Introduction

Altinkum, which is served by flights to both Bodrum and Izmir, means ‘Golden Sand’ in Turkish and this relates to Altinkum’s two fabulous sandy beaches, one at either end of the resort. They are perfect for families with children as they slope gently into the sea but are just as appealing to those who simply want to unwind, take it easy and do some serious tanning! There are plenty of watersports for the more energetic and, for night owls, there’s some great night life.

Why Choose Altinkum?

Altinkum has a great selection of bars and eating places, a wide choice of mini-markets and shops, countless night spots and two of the best beaches in this part of Turkey. There’s also great sightseeing and it’s perfect for couples and families alike. A really lovely resort with something for everyone.

Best Time to Travel

Most returning visitors agree that the best time to visit Altinkum is in May, June, September and October when the temperatures are perfect – in the high 70s or low 80s. The beaches are a little crowded in July and August but they are long beaches so you’ll always find space. If it’s sea-swimming you like then September and October are great as the Med is at its warmest then.

The Resort

Boasting two great beaches, a sea front promenade, terrific night life and a bustling resort centre, Altinkum is, without doubt, a superb location for a memorable summer holiday. The beach offers a range of watersports, from windsurfing to banana boat rides, and, of course, there are plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas for hire. There’s a great selection of shops, bars and restaurants in the resort and there are also regular bus and dolmus service to local towns and villages in the area.

Eating & Drinking

Altinkum offers a wide selection of places to eat and drink from doner kebab stalls to excellent local and international restaurants. There are also family-run cafes and more up-market bars for the discerning visitor. There’s something for everyone and, a huge plus, it’s all within easy walking distance.

Excursions

Altinkum offers a good choice of excursions and sightseeing trips although the two ‘must-see’ trips are Ephesus, located close to Kusadasi, and the Temple of Apollo at Didim. In addition, you can also visit Pamukkale, Afrodisias, Bodrum and the Didim Aquapark.

Night Life & Shopping

Whilst there are many small shops and stalls along Altinkum’s sea front and in the centre of the resort, there’s also great shopping to be had on the shopping trips to Soke and Bodrum. But the best shopping of all is at the local market in Didim, just a short bus ride away. Night life is great and revolves around a wide selection of bars, discos and night spots which will appeal to most tastes.
